Judo Class
"Nice and smooth, take your fall."
My kid's body is massive, like a bear's, but when he falls he just lets go and descends through space: slow, steady, without fear. He lands, gets up, and does the practice again.

January 3rd and 4th
Yesterday, a black car (Kia Soul?) was decorated with black abstract designs. There was the monochrome subtlety of glossy car against matte swirl...and then, all at once the swirls took shape and coalesced into a dragon breathing fire. Transformed.
Today...well, right now, the curve of the mattress leans up to meet me and the aquarium's water laughs in melody, dulcet over the steady drone of the filter motor. The music's there but only if you know how to listen.

1/2/12
There was sunlight hitting a lake on a gray day, flashes that made the water look like glittering stone.
There was my dog off the leash, in her scrambly all-out run, unrestrained in all the best ways, looking as happy as a dog can.

These feel more like things I'm grateful for than flashes of beauty or insight, but so be it.
